The State Society of Rhode Island (SSRI) is a 501(c)(3), nonpartisan organization in Washington, D.C., serving as a the premier resource for Rhode Islanders who live, work, or study in the nation’s capital. Our active Board of Directors provides social, community service, cultural, and educational events to our membership, creating networking opportunities and a strong Ocean State community in Washington.
SSRI is a member of the National Conference of State Societies (NCSS), the non-profit umbrella association for each of the 50 states and 5 territories that have an active society. SSRI works with NCSS on programming throughout the year, apart from the events that are hosted by SSRI exclusively for our members.

Chris Simeone, Chairman
Chris Simeone serves as the Society’s first Chairman. He is also a founding member of the Society. After working for Rhode Island State Senator Dawson Hodgson, Chris came to Washington, D.C., for an internship in the U.S. House of Representatives. Chris is currently a policy analyst in the international practice of BGR Group, a government affairs firm.
Originally from North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Chris attended the University of Connecticut, where he graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics and Political Science. He is currently an MBA Candidate at the University of Maryland. An avid sailor, Chris was the President of the UConn Sailing Team and continues to race competitively in Rhode Island and throughout New England.
Stefan Brathwaite, Vice Chairman
Stefan, a founding member of the counts his stint living in Providence as one of the best chapters in his life. He is privileged to have grown up in a family that values hard work and integrity, which are values that led him to join TTR Sotheby's International Realty. He enjoys a reputation among his clients for a professional but personable working style and impeccable service, demonstrating confidentiality, attention to detail, strong contract negotiation skills, and for keeping his client's best interests at the top of the list.
Stefan has been an active contributor to several civic organizations. Trained as a classical cellist, his avocations include international travel, gastronomy, wines, music, reading, photography and horticulture. He holds a C.E.P. diploma from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques (Paris), an A.B. with honors from Brown University, and a J.D. from George Washington University.
Lauren Broccoli, Treasurer
Lauren Broccoli, Esq. was born and raised in Rhode Island, where she attended St. Mary’s Academy-Bay View in East Providence. After earning her undergraduate degree at Boston University, Lauren returned to Rhode Island to attend Roger Williams University School of Law, where she earned her J.D. in 2012.
Lauren has been actively involved in Rhode Island politics, serving as an assistant to Governor Lincoln Chafee’s Executive Legal Counsel and on Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s 2014 Senate campaign. She served as an Aide for U.S. Representative James Langevin, working in his D.C. office. Currently, Lauren is a lobbyist at Lewis-Burke Associates LLC, a full-service government relations firm based in D.C. Lauren is extremely passionate about preserving the unique traditions of Rhode Island in Washington, DC. and has been a Board Member since the inception of the State Society.
