The State Society of Rhode Island (SSRI) “Rhody Scholar” Program

The State Society of Rhode Island (SSRI) “Rhody Scholar” program provides an opportunity for outstanding Rhode Islanders to pursue internships, fellowships, or a first job in Washington, DC. Applicants must adhere to eligibility requirements and submit an application by the deadline listed. The Rhody Scholar Committee shall be appointed by the SSRI Board of Directors and shall recommend the best candidate(s) based on merit. The number of scholarships awarded shall depend on the quality of the applications submitted and the total funds available. The name(s) of each awardee recommended by the Committee will be submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. 

The Rhody scholarship is a cash stipend that will be paid directly to the recipient for qualified uses related to the internship, fellowship, or entry-level job, including relocation, housing, and other related expenses fees that will allow the recipient to pursue the opportunity in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility:

  • Born in Rhode Island or have been a legal resident of the state of Rhode Island for at least four years; 

  • Applicants must have an internship, fellowship, or job offer at the time of application and provide documentation of the employment offer. 

Award Amount:

  • $500

Applicants must submit a resume and a typed statement of purpose composition of up to 500 words detailing why and how the scholarship will support their career goals and how he/she will advance the mission of SSRI through this opportunity.
